“Orient” goes open access
It is our pleasure to announce that the Society for Near Eastern Studies in Japan has decided to abolish the three-year embargo it has been applying to the online release of the materials published in Orient, the society’s European-language journal, on J-STAGE, a platform run by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). Beginning with Vol. 59, to be published in the spring of 2024, the open-access online version and the hard-copy version will be published simultaneously. We anticipate that in this way Orient will become an even more effective means for disseminating your findings.
The society will continue to publish the hard-copy version of Orient through the spring of 2026, when Vol. 61 is scheduled to be released. By then we will have decided whether the publication of the hard-copy version will be continued beyond that time, taking into account global trends in the publication of scholarly periodicals, as well as the trend in the number of our subscribers.
