About Our Society
The Society for Near Eastern Studies in Japan was founded in 1954 at the suggestion of Prince Takahito Mikasa. The Society holds an annual meeting, organizes public lectures, and publishes two periodicals: Orient: Journal of the Society for Near Eastern Studies in Japan, an annual, European-language journal, and Oriento (Bulletin of the Society for Near Eastern Studies in Japan), a biannual Japanese-language journal.
